DIY: Glitter Pumpkin Candles

DIY: Glitter Pumpkin Candles #autumn #fallcrafts

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year to make things. There’s something about the crisp autumn breeze that makes me want to spend an afternoon with a hot cup of tea and a craft project. I’ve been collecting small pumpkins for the past few weeks and drawing inspiration from this post by Hello Natural, I decided to make my own pumpkin candles.

Supplies Needed

• Small pumpkins
• Soy wax flakes
• #2 candle wick
• Wick tabs
• 30 drops clove essential oil (optional)
• Glitter

Additional Tools

• Carving knife
• Spoon
• Pliers
• Tin can (or double boiler)
• Popsicle stick
• Clothes pins
• Scissors

Cut the top off of each pumpkin and use a spoon to scrape out the insides.

Prep your wick with metal tabs (alternatively you could also use pre-tabbed wicks). Cut the wick to size and insert it through the metal tab with the end of of the wick lining up to the bottom of the tab. Use pliers to pinch the metal tab tightly around the wick. Place into the center of each pumpkin. Use a clothespin to hold the wick into place.

Using a double broiler, melt soy wax flakes over medium heat. Use a popsicle stick to stir the wax. Once completely melted, add the essential oil (optional).

Pour melted wax into the prepared pumpkins. Allow wax to dry almost completely, then sprinkle glitter over the top. Use a hairdryer to ‘hot top’ the glittered wax. The wax should remelt slightly and allow the glitter to set on the top. Allow to dry completely and trim wicks.

Simple as that! Now you can light them up and enjoy a hot cup of pumpkin spice.

RECIPE: Savory Pumpkin Hummus

RECIPE: Savory Pumpkin Hummus #snack #healthy

Last weekend I hosted a crafternoon and made this delicious Savory Pumpkin Hummus for everyone to snack on while we worked. The pumpkin flavor in this hummus came out very mild, but was still delicious and full of flavor. We drank mulled cider and snacked on hummus and veggies while we worked on various craft projects together. It was the perfect way to spend a fall afternoon!

  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can chick peas, drained
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (extra virgin olive oil is fine, but the results will vary)
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in a food processor and puree until smooth. My hummus came out quite thick, so I drizzled in some olive oil until I achieved my desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.

RECIPE: Pumpkin Spice Syrup

RECIPE: Pumpkin Spice Syrup + Chai Latte #autumn #drink
Nothing says autumn like pumpkin spice. Instead of treating myself to a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks this year, I decided to make my own! Now I can have pumpkin spice lattes all season. I gave up coffee about a year ago, so I like to make my own Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte instead. It’s so delicious and the perfect treat for autumn evenings.
