DIY: Three Patriotic Garland Ideas

DIY: Three Patriotic Garland Ideas #craft #4thofjuly #decoration #america

I love any excuse to make crafty decorations for parties and get-togethers. With 4th of July coming up this Friday, I decided to whip up not one, but three different DIY garlands to display at our annual BBQ with friends. All of these are simple projects that anyone can make in time for the 4th of July!

1. Paper Star Garland

• Red, white and blue construction paper
Red bakers twine (or string)
Star punch
Craft glue

Use a star kraft punch to punch stars from red, white and blue construction paper. Cut a piece of bakers twine (any length is fine, I recommend 4′-6′). Add a drop of glue onto the center of a paper star and place the twine into the glue. Continue glueing stars to the twine, about 1-2″ apart. Let glue dry and then hang and display.

2. Patriotic Pom-pom Garland

• Red, white and blue yarn
Pom pom maker
Bakers Twine
• Scissors
• Yarn needle

I recommend watching this video tutorial from Clover Needlecraft for instructions on how to use a pom-pom maker. Make 9 yarn pom-poms (3 red, 3 white, and 3 blue). Use a yarn needle and bakers twine to string the pom-poms together.

3. Tie-Dye Tissue Fireworks Garland

Red and blue dye
• White tissue paper
• Yarn needle
Bakers twine

The first step is to tie-dye the tissue paper. Check out this tutorial on Honest to Nod blog for instructions.

To make the tissue ‘fireworks’, follow this tutorial by Confetti Sunshine on how to make a tissue flower garland. I used a yarn needle and bakers twine to string the tissue ‘fireworks’ together.

Recipe type: Dessert Favor
Ingredients
  • Peeps® marshmallow candies (1 package of each color)
  • Bamboo skewers
  • Cellophane Bags
  • Ribbon
  • Custom favor tags from Evermine.com
Instructions
  1. To assemble your Peep Skewers all you need to do is open up all your packages of Peeps® candies (I chose the chicks but bunnies would be cute too). Choose whichever color order you want and then start poking them onto the bamboo skewer one at a time. I used a total of 5 peeps per skewer.
  2. Package however you like. I slipped my Peep Skewers into large cellophane bags and tied them closed with coordinating ribbon and a custom favor tag from Evermine.com.

If you want to gift a little something extra, pair each skewer with a bar of chocolate and a package of graham crackers– because we all know that Peep S’mores are the best!

DIY: Easter Gift Bags

DIY Easter Gift Bags #craft #holiday #tutorial

I love celebrating holidays and getting inspired to make something new each year. For Easter this year, I decided to make gift bags decorated with my own art doodles. I plan to fill them up with candy and strategically (and secretly) leave them for my friends and family to find. I hope these little surprises will brighten their day!

What You Need

• Muslin gift bags (I ordered mine online from Celestial Gifts on Etsy)
Fabric markers
Personalized favor tags
• Candy of your choice
• Easter grass (optional)

Assembly:

To decorate my bags, I used a set of Tulip brand neon fabric markers. For inspiration, I looked up some fun Easter egg designs on Pinterest and then started doodling. For my first bag, I drew some simple spring flowers. Next, I experimented with different Easter egg designs. I especially liked covering an entire bag with a hand drawn flower pattern. You could also try drawing a bunny, an Easter greeting, or a person’s name.

Once you’ve finished decorating your bags, you can stuff them with a little Easter grass and a handful of your favorite candy. I also used some custom tags from Evermine.com.
