DIY: Hand-Painted Mason Jar Mugs

DIY: Hand-Painted Mason Jar Mugs #marthastewart #glassware #paint

With summer in full swing, I’m looking forward to hosting backyard get-togethers. I’ve been on the lookout for some fun, affordable glassware to serve my homemade cocktails in and was excited to discover this fun DIY over on Soul Makes blog. I found mason jar mugs at my local Dollar Tree, which made for a fun, budget friendly craft project.

Supplies:

• Mason Jar Mug (or other glassware)
Martha Stewart Glass Paint

I really loved using Martha’s glass paint. It’s permanent, dishwasher safe, and super easy to use, plus it comes in tons of different colors. You can draw your design on each glass quite easily. The directions say to let it air cure for 21 days OR bake in the oven.

To oven bake, place your painted mugs in a cold oven. Preheat to 350 degrees and set your timer for 30 minutes. You want to heat up the glasses slowly. After 30 minutes, simply turn off the oven and let cool completely. Set your glasses aside for another 72 hours and they are ready to go.

RECIPE: S’more Trail Mix

RECIPE: S'more Trail Mix by Adventures In Making blog #homemade #favor #snack

S’mores are one of my favorite treats. You’ll often find me roasting a marshmallow over the stove in my kitchen late at night, chocolate and graham cracker in hand. I recently made up a batch of S’more Trail Mix for a woodland theme baby shower I hosted for my brother. Not only did this recipe make for wonderful favors to send home with our family and friends, but it was super easy to make. Feel free to adapt this recipe to suit your tastes.

DIY: Herbal Sachets + Free Sewing Pattern

DIY: Herbal Sachet Pillow + Free Sewing Pattern #tutorial #spring #craft

These sachet pillows are a simple sewing project and make gifts or favors for any occasion. The best part is that you can coordinate your fragrant herbs and fabric to match your theme, color palette and season. I chose to use lavender, chamomile and lemon balm for their relaxing effects and fresh spring scent.

Supplies Needed:

• Cotton fabrics (three different colors/patterns of your choice)
• Herbs (I ordered mine in bulk from the San Francisco Herb Co.)
• Tablespoon & funnel
• Sewing machine, thread & pins
• Iron & ironing board
• Sewing scissors
• Kraft scissors
Free sewing pattern

The first step is to wash and iron your fabric. Then download and print the free sewing pattern. Using kraft scissors, cut out the template pieces. Then pin them to your fabric and cut out with sewing scissors.

Next take your two front triangle pieces and place them together (right sides facing in). Use your sewing machine to sew along the longest side of the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance. Iron open to form a square and trim the triangle edges where indicated in photo below.

Place your front and back pieces together, right sides facing in, and sew all the way around with a 1/4” seam allowance. Make sure to leave a 1-inch opening on one side (see photo below for reference).

Trim the corners, making sure not to cut too close to the seam (you don’t want to make a hole in your pillow!)

Turn your pillow right side out using the opening you left and iron flat. I like to use a pencil or pen to push out the corners completely.

Using a funnel, fill your pillow with herbs. I added about 2 tablespoons of each to make a nice plump looking pillow.

The last step is to carefully hand-stitch the opening closed.

Ingredients
  • Peeps® marshmallow candies (1 package of each color)
  • Bamboo skewers
  • Cellophane Bags
  • Ribbon
  • Custom favor tags from Evermine.com
Instructions
  1. To assemble your Peep Skewers all you need to do is open up all your packages of Peeps® candies (I chose the chicks but bunnies would be cute too). Choose whichever color order you want and then start poking them onto the bamboo skewer one at a time. I used a total of 5 peeps per skewer.
  2. Package however you like. I slipped my Peep Skewers into large cellophane bags and tied them closed with coordinating ribbon and a custom favor tag from Evermine.com.

If you want to gift a little something extra, pair each skewer with a bar of chocolate and a package of graham crackers– because we all know that Peep S’mores are the best!

DIY: Easter Gift Bags

DIY Easter Gift Bags #craft #holiday #tutorial

I love celebrating holidays and getting inspired to make something new each year. For Easter this year, I decided to make gift bags decorated with my own art doodles. I plan to fill them up with candy and strategically (and secretly) leave them for my friends and family to find. I hope these little surprises will brighten their day!

DIY Easter Gift Bags #craft #holiday #tutorial

What You Need

• Muslin gift bags (I ordered mine online from Celestial Gifts on Etsy)
Fabric markers
Personalized favor tags
• Candy of your choice
• Easter grass (optional)

Assembly:

To decorate my bags, I used a set of Tulip brand neon fabric markers. For inspiration, I looked up some fun Easter egg designs on Pinterest and then started doodling. For my first bag, I drew some simple spring flowers. Next, I experimented with different Easter egg designs. I especially liked covering an entire bag with a hand drawn flower pattern. You could also try drawing a bunny, an Easter greeting, or a person’s name.

Once you’ve finished decorating your bags, you can stuff them with a little Easter grass and a handful of your favorite candy. I also used some custom tags from Evermine.com.

RECIPE: Pretzel Treat Favors

Pretzel Treat Favors #recipe #babyshower #birthday #party #treat
My mom and I recently made these adorable Pretzel Treat Favors for a baby shower. They were so easy and fun to make I just had to share them with you! Plus I LOVE the sweet and salty combination of this versatile treat.

Pretzel Treat Favors #recipe #babyshower #birthday #party #treat

What’s great about making these for party favors is that you can make them for practically any event. All you have to do is use colored sprinkles to match your theme. We chose pink and rainbow sprinkles for our rainbow/unicorn theme baby shower. But feel free to use whatever colors you like for birthdays, holidays, or whatever kind of event you are planning.

Pretzel Treat Favors #recipe #babyshower #birthday #party #treat

The other great thing about these favors is that you can make them in advance! Just store them in air tight containers and they will stay fresh for up to one week. Now onto the recipe…

Ingredients
  • Pretzel sticks
  • White chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles (I recommend getting a variety of different sprinkles so you can have fun mixing them and making fun color combinations).
Instructions
  1. Simply melt the white chocolate using a double broiler. Dip a pretzel stick in. I used a spatula to help evenly coat the pretzel. Give it a good shake to allow excess chocolate to drip off. Next, dust your choice of sprinkles over the chocolate until evenly covered. It's best to do this over a pan or plate to catch falling sprinkles. Place pretzel treat on a pan lined with parchment paper to harden and dry.
  2. Allow to dry completely. You can pop it into the refrigerator to speed up the process. The chocolate needs to be completely hardened before packaging. Stored in an air tight container, these treats will stay fresh for up to one week.
